IRON BUTTERFLY (Board 2004/2005)
IRON BUTTERFLY (Board 2004/2005)
IRON BUTTERFLY (Board 2004/2005)
Dormant, Tetraploid, Height 18", Size 6.00", Mid-Late Season, Rebloom

A gorgeous daylily that I registered because so many asked for it, then still waited while I debated introducing it because it has a major flaw. This is a short daylily, and worse it has low budcount. While short, it usually does not bloom in the foliage since the foliage also forms an even lower mound, which works just fine in the very front of the border. The flower can be even larger that the registered 6 inches. Opens early and the substance is very thick, so the flower holds up well even on hot days when I don't. Fertile but difficult. (Magnificent Rainbow x Creative Edge)

CYBERLILY MAGIC BUTTERFLY (Board 2004)
CYBERLILY MAGIC BUTTERFLY (Board 2004)
CYBERLILY MAGIC BUTTERFLY (Board 2004)
Dormant, Tetraploid, Height 20", Size 5.50", Mid-Late Season, Rebloom
My best intro so far. This was the first flower I was sure I would introduce, the very first time it bloomed. The pretty pink lavender flowers have a grey eye and a wire gold edge. The eye comes from it's mother, Magnificent Rainbow, and the edge hints back to other parent Ida's Magic. The flower avoids the greatest flaws of both it's parents with flowers above the foliage and consisent color. Petal color and green throat hold well all day. Early morning opener, though it needs a little more time and heat to recurve as much as shown. It has rebloomed well for me and is fertile both ways. The only flaw I'm aware of is that it increases a bit more slowly that I'd like. (Magnificent Rainbow X Ida's Magic)

MISSING ANNE (Board 2004)
MISSING ANNE (Board 2004)
MISSING ANNE (Board 2004) Semi-Evergreen, Tetraploid, Height 22", Size 5.00", Late Season, Rebloom
I called this one "icy" as a seedling to distinguish it from it's siblings. The color is a very pale lavender pink with subtle caramel color veins. The color looks fragile but the substance is in fact quite nice and holds all day. The flower does need warm nights and a little time in the morning to fully open as shown. It does inherit a tendance to waterspot from it's parent Ida's Magic, but because the color is so pale the slightly lighter spots aren't offensive in the garden. Three way branching with 18 buds. Named for my mom-in-law who is no longer with us but who would have liked this one. (Magnificent Rainbow x Ida's Magic)

Diploid. 5" M 24" Semi-evergreen.
I loved this flower on it's maiden bloom, and it's just gotten better ever since. If the raspberry lavender color and ruffles were not enough, there is also the darker veining and the white wire edge that runs around each petal. The veining and the edge have been consistent for me on every flower. The eye is sometimes more subtle than shown. The throat blends from yellow to a nice green heart. Fertile both ways and an easy pod parent. Limited. (Jolyene Nichole x Ann Blocker)

ANNE (Board 2003)
ANNE (spring 2003)
ANNE (Board 2003)
Diploid. 3.25" M 26" Semi-evergreen
A small flower with a variable eye. It usually presents the lovely and unusual face shown here, but some flowers will have a more typical rose eye. I've also seen it as both a bitone and a reverse bitone from time to time. I love having that much variation in a flower (provided all the faces are beautiful, as they are with this one) since each day is a nice surprise. Two way branching with a bud count of 15, though that may be better when not measured during a drought. ANNE is named for my Mom-in-law, a beautiful and complex lady with a great smile who loved cheerful small flowers and pink ones. The first of many to be named in her honor. Fertile both ways. (Charlie Pierce Memorial x Siloam Simple Simon)

Diploid, 4.25" MRe 23" Semi-evergreen.
I really wanted this flower to be an Unusual Form, but in the end I couldn't justify registering it as such since it will only pinch one or two petals but never all three. Still, it has such a lovely pattern that I decided it deserved to be shared. The petals are pale shell pink, and the feathery eye is a blend of lavender and magenta. The throat is extremely green. The 2 way branching and bud count of 10 (measured during last year's drought) is more sparse than I'd like, but it reblooms reliably for me -- possibly because it's not covered in pods. I find it to be a very difficult parent, but that may be partly because I've only tried to cross it to difficult spidery things. (Cat Dancer x If)

TALIA (Board 2002)
TALIA (fall 2002)
TALIA (Board 2002)
Diploid. 4.5" ML 35" Evergreen.
The flowers are pale mauve with ruffles, diamond dusting, and a complex eye surrounding a chartreuse throat. The eye is formed of three rings of color, the widest inner color band is purple with hints of blue tones, this is surrounded by a band of lavender rose, and around it all is a magenta plum pencil edge. The whole eye usually tends to feather somewhat, and the degree to which this happens varies. I have on occasion seen the pattern "fall apart" to the point that it resembled a kaleidoscope. Talia closeup If you look closely, you will also see a narrow darker edge present on the sepals. This subtle and pretty effect is quite consistent. The tall scapes have nice three way branching with 20+ buds. The flowers measure out to 4.5 inches due to the sepals which do not recurve, so the overall impression is of a flower closer to 4.25 inches - still a decent size for this eye pattern. The plants are vigorous and fertile both ways with easy pods. The parentage is CRY x BLUE MOON RISING. Due to the southern parents, I can only recommend this one for southern gardens at this time. On the otherhand, while I registered this one as evergreen, she was clearly semievergeen this winter in the wacky weather we've had this year. Go figure.
