Garden Markers and Labels

Ever admired the professional looking plant labels in someone's garden and wondered where to get them? Here are a few possibilites. In general, "marker" means the part the goes into the ground, while "label" means the part you read, and they are sold separately.

AAA Quality Engravers Botanic garden quality labels for use on several types of markers. I have some that are 6 years old and are still going strong. I expect they will outlast the best of markers.
Cedarthorn Gardens Custom Labels These are for use on Simply Elegant markers. Haven't tried these personally.
DecoColor extra fine opaque paint pen The best pen I've found for writing on plastic labels. Also works on metal, though bleeds a bit. Recommended to me by Tony Avent of Plant Delights Nursery. I've only used black, but a white version is available. Available at Michael's craft supply stores, and probably other hobby/craft stores too.
EON Industries, Inc. The basic 'E' and 'C' series markers work great for perennials like daylilies. I prefer their 'E' style over similar ones from other places thanks to the rounded edges, but have recently switched to the 'C' style which comes pre-assembled.
Garden Fonts Peel and stick labels for EON markers. I haven't used these, but reports are good.
Iris City Gardens These folks make their own plant markers similar to those from EON, but with stainless steel legs. I was gifted with one to trial and it seems to be holding up very well so far.
Pylon Plastic Markers Plastic "pot labels" and "markers" are sturdier than most. I use the 6 inch "pot lables" handwritten with DecoColor ink pens my in seedling beds where I only need the marker to survive a couple years before the plant is selected or composted. Mine mostly break from being stepped on in an overcrowded bed rather than from becoming overly brittle from UV decay. Available from Hummert International and other places.
See-Fine Marker Company Another premium marker. For me, this one is the sturdiest marker on the list.
Simply Elegant Markers from Gardens with a Northern Exposure
Black markers look much better in the garden that shiny metal ones. I've had trouble with the faceplates coming off due to deer, children, and weeding, but I'm told the current design has been improved in this regard. They're awfully pretty.
