CULTURE SHOCK (1997)
Diploid 36" MRe 3.5" Fairy Firecracker X (Fairy Jester x Liebchen)
Years ago when I was breeding small flowered and miniature diploids, I liked using Liz Salter's Fairy Jester because it invariably produced perfectly round seedlings. Crossed on to Dr. Stout's Liebchen (registered in 1956, and derived from four species), I got attractive flower forms with good branching, but poor colors. Fairy Firecracker remedied that problem giving me full, wide flowers in orange and yellow. Culture Shock is an orange and yellow blend with nice branching, 25-30 buds, and rebloom - even in northern states. It won an HM in 2000. A few are available @ $20.

PRACTICAL MAGIC (2000)
36" MLa 5.5" Twilight Sun X (Indonesia x Guiniver's Gift)
Practical Magic is a dormant daylily with deep butter yellow flowers and very ruffled petals - not surprising since both Ever So Ruffled and Indonesia are in its background. During periods of exceptionally hot weather, the flower will "frost over" getting lighter in color - but it is not unattractive and it never looses its substance. Practical Magic has 21 buds on branched scapes. A few will be available in fall of 2004 @ $50.

ITHAKA (2001)
27" EMRe 5.25" (Kathleen Salter X Kalutara)
Ithaka is a light yellow self with a green throat and white midribs. The petals are nicely ruffled and reflex slightly. Scapes are well branched with terminal Y plus 3 lateral branches, bud count is 28-30. The pollen parent, Kalutara, is a little known daylily from Howard Hite - it is a sibling to the more famous Angelus Angel. Ithaka is a hardy evergreen, fertile both ways, and a good parent. A few are available @ $65.

LIAM (2000)
38" MRe 4.75-5" (Flying Carpet X Twilight In Tangiers)
Liam is a very full, violet colored flower with a faint purple halo. The color is a standout in the garden, always drawing attention. I've gotten some very good results using Liam with Ida's Magic kids (see page for
Flying Carpet breeding line). Bud count is moderate at 20. Fertile both ways. A few are available in spring 2004 @ $50.

MISS SALLY (1998)
32" M 5.5" (Fencing Master x Flamenco Queen)
MISS SALLY is named for a friend's mother who
lived in the mountains of western North Carolina and whose favorite color
was red. Although it's not registered
as reblooming, it will with enough moisture. I like its clear red color
and husky growth habit. It's producing seedlings with wide petals and
rich color saturation. It is fertile both ways. The bud count is good at about 25.
A few are available in fall of 2004 @$35.

MAGICAL BLEND (1999)
23" EM 3.75" (Delicate Balance X Little Mystic Moon)
This is a very dependable small daylily that is always wide open first thing in the morning. Because I was working with My Darling Clementine, I had hoped to get rebloom out of this cross but it didn't show up in MAGICAL BLEND. However, many of its siblings do show rebloom and one of them is a parent of future introdiction ALICE FAYE. MAGICAL BLEND is a beautiful polychrome that has wax-like substance and the wide round form that I love. Bud count is 21. A few are available for sale @ $30.
